TRANSIT is a collaboration between eight local creatives – five from Eastbourne, two from St Leonards-on-Sea and one from Brighton – from different disciplines of dance, music, spoken word and creative writing.

Towner Eastbourne, February 2024

Inspired by three days of experiential cross-arts collaboration hosted by Towner Eastbourne, lead artist Phoene Cave proposed transitioning these collective improvisations into the public facing non-gallery spaces during the Turner Prize 2023 exhibition. These act as a response to Eastbourne ALIVE and East Sussex Art Partnership question of “Is it Art?”.

TRANSIT will showcase different creative responses during the first week of February 2024. Through sound, gesture, movement, spoken and sung narrative, the collective will respond to community voices gathered from prior workshops with a wide range of participants.

TRANSIT will be influenced by local people (identities) and place (landscapes) exploring journeying, connections, and crossing boundaries.

Expect the unexpected as we animate the space, offering passive or participatory engagement in a way that suits all visitors, including those from our community partners who may have never visited Towner.
