A new play by Ray Castleton

Directed by Charlie Kenber

Yorkshire & Derbyshire tour

7th - 22nd July 2017

1945 - a time of victory, hope and rebuilding. A land fit for heroes - this time

Tom returns from the war to the arms of his grateful mother and fiancée - and to the bosom of the pit. George fights his own battles and an election to secure a better future for his union men and their families. Connie mourns, loves and unites; Lizzie sees a new world, brim-full of opportunity. In a new Britain will their hopes and dreams be reconciled?

‘On Behalf of The People’ is a rich, engaging story, of a post-war mining family coming to terms with life and love in their rapidly changing world.

Charlie Kenber’s unobtrusively shrewd direction...the distinction between cast and audience is blurred, not by audience participation, but much more naturally.
